CentOS net install over FTP

By andy September 4th, 2008

If using the net install ISO for CentOS, you will get so far and then be asked what FTP address to use for the installer to fetch the rest of the source material from.

For the FTP server, you can enter: mirrors.kernel.org

For the path: /centos/5.2/os/i386

If that doesn’t work for you (and it should), then there is a list of sites here http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=13

This and every other instruction I have tried does not install and operating system. The netinstall just does not seem to work with either ftp or http.

I searched and found many forum entries, etc with the same problem and no solutions.

I remember a day when open-source was the way to go. Everything just worked.

Now it seems like open-source just means problems. I never thought I would see the day when I preferred windows. But at least it installs. It might work like crap, but at least it works.

Centos is a complete waste of time and effort.
