Missing lighttpd on CentOS 5.2

By andy August 20th, 2008

I wanted to fire up lighthtpd on my Centos 5.2 installation, but found the package wasn’t in the Centos repository. I tried sudo yum install lighttpd but would get back No package lighttpd available. It seems that the Centos repository that my yum looks at doesn’t include lighttpd, but I did find http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/ who very kindly builds rpms such as this and makes them available. So rather than remember this site and get any future packages from it, I wanted to teach my local yum to always look there - and DAG has made that very easy. Just (w)get one rpm from DAG, and it will teach yum to always look there in future.

First get the rpm:
wget http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/i386/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
Then have yum install this file:
sudo yum --nogpgcheck localinstall rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
Now sudo yum install lighttpd works just fine!

My uname: Linux vm 2.6.18-92.1.10.el5 #1 SMP Tue Aug 5 07:41:53 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
